Musethica Session at KMH Stockholm

In Stockholm, between November 22nd and 29th, a Session was held featuring invited international musicians and a student from the Royal College of Music Stockholm. The tutors for the week were Sigge Nisbeth (violist and senior lecturer at KMH) and Maria Winiarski (violist and Artistic Director of Musethica). Fifteen concerts were performed at preschools, day centers, and nursing homes in areas including Vårby Gård, Kista, and Sollentuna.

The musicians also spent a day at the Österåker correctional facility, performing two concerts for the inmates. The week’s repertoire consisted of Brahms' String Sextet in B-flat major, as well as string trios by Beethoven and Dohnányi. The week concluded with a lunch concert in the Royal Hall at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm.

Violinist Alpay Jan Inklap, originally from Turkey and a student at the Barenboim-Said Academy in Berlin, participated in Musethica for the first time. Here are his reflections after the week:

“Participating in Musethica was a fantastic experience for me. Meeting colleagues from different parts of the world, spending intensive time together, and sharing so many emotions made it truly special.
For me, the most moving part of the week was playing for children with disabilities. In those moments, music was the only way we could truly communicate with them.
Playing so many concerts in such a short time was very intense, but at the same time rewarding. It helped me greatly as an artist and gave me more confidence.

In many ways, the project reminded me of why I play the violin.”

The session was part of 1000+ Concerts: Innovating Higher Music Education through Social Inclusion, a project funded by the European Union.
