Ninth Edition of Musethica at ESMUC Barcelona

The Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) hosted the ninth edition of the Musethica Session from February 16th to 21st, 2026, delivering classical music performances to various social institutions across Barcelona. As part of the European 1000+ Concerts initiative, the project seeks to reshape higher music education by combining artistic excellence with social engagement. The concerts were performed by the SenArts Quintet under the guidance of Italian bassoonist Diego Chenna.

Classical music concerts were held in care homes, disability centers, women’s support centers, and the Can Brians correctional facility in Sant Esteve Sesrovires, among other venues. The project collaborated with Apropa Cultura to select participating centers. The final concert took place at 6 p.m. at Sala 4 Alícia de Larrocha, with free admission.

The concert programme included:

  • Richard Strauss – Serenade in E-flat major, Op. 7

  • Paul Hindemith – Kleine Kammermusik for Five Winds, Op. 24 No. 2

  • Richard Strauss – Suite in B-flat major, Op. 4

Third Seminar 1000+ Concerts: The Art of Practicing with Diego Chenna

Alongside the concerts, ESMUC held the third edition of The Art of Practicing, a seminar focused on individual practice techniques and concert preparation. The initiative forms part of a broader European collaboration promoting social inclusion through music, offering more than 1,000 free concerts to underserved communities.

The roundtable included Chenna and SenArts members Nieves Aliaño and Carles Chordà, moderated by ESMUC horn professor José Vicente Castelló. The seminar, with free admission upon prior registration, took place on Tuesday, February 17th, from 16h00 to 18h00 at the Victoria de los Ángeles Hall.

The 1000+ Concerts project combines artistic excellence with social commitment, bringing classical music to audiences often excluded from traditional concert circuits. Through Musethica, performance becomes central to the training of young musicians, highlighting both artistic skills and social responsibility.
